Keith Ronald GALLIGAN (Deceased)

Official No: R95736 Aged: 15 years 10 months Joined: 7th October 1966
Division: Rhoades Home Port: Brisbane Discharged: 26th November 1980
Branch:

Naval Stores

Postings: Leeuwin, Sydney, Cerberus, Platypus, Penguin, Duchess, Albatross, Moreton, Brisbane
Notes: I had routine Asbestos check through DVA in November 2005 and they found a 3.6cm malignant tumour. In mid December 2005 the tumour and 40% of my right lung was removed. I am now undergoing chemo as the tumour invaded the blood vessels.

There is a research team working at the hospital I went to and they have told me that even though this cancer is not 'asbestosis' they believe that there is a link between asbestos exposure and other lung cancers such as mine.

I am mentioning this in the hope that all others of the intake will have the asbestos check done. The amazing part of this is that I had no symptoms and when they gave me a breath capacity test my lung capacity was 120% for my age.

Current Occupation: Retired (TPI claim in)

Died 06/11/2007 - Keith passed away from a tumour on his brain.

Rest In Peace ..... LEST WE FORGET

1966 October 2005
Biography:

I did 14 years in pusser's, accrued all the normal things like a wife, kids and a mortgage. After leaving pusser's we settled in my home town of Redcliffe Qld and I joined the Prison Service as a screw and stores jockey for 10 years.

My wife and I then spent 3 months camping on Fraser Island. My next job was with the Redcliffe City Council, again as a storeman and after 10 years we decided to take long service leave and travel for 7 months. Well, we are the joke of the century as we got as far as the Daintree river, resigned our nice secure jobs back home and have been working and travelling for 5 years but still haven’t been out of Queensland.

What have I been doing?  Fishing, prospecting, fishing, prospecting and more fishing.
