Followed the footsteps of most
during my service and enjoyed every bit. After the generic
Vung Tau Ferry was sent to Canberra where I was lucky enough
to spend my kitchen hand days at the Belconnen Transmitter
station with Ron McGrath, Doc Jeppesen and Rob Tidy. We took
advantage of a lack of supervision and actually spent some
very untidy weekends whilst we were there. Still got photos
to prove it. There were far to many other highlights to list
so I will leave it at that. For some unknown reason left in
'74 when the Labour Government of the day cut back.
Did numerous jobs for 2 years
including farm hand, truck driver, roustabout in shearing
shed and farm machinery dealership. Joined W. A. Police in
'76 where I am still employed. Spent 11 years at country
postings and the remainder at suburban stations around
Perth.
Married my beautiful wife,
Moira, in 1975 and we have 3 adult children. Darren is 29
and lives in Sydney where he is the manager of an OPSM
store. Kellie (27) is state manager of Esprit, the clothing
mob. Erin (24) works for Moira at our sunglass shop in
Fremantle and she is expecting our first grandchild in early
April '05.
I still keep in touch with
Ron McGrath and we often get together for meals with a few
beers and the odd game of golf.
Called in on John Bensley and
his lovely wife, Toni, last year '04 at his Buderim (Qld)
B&B and had a great chat.
